The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Arifa Institute of Technology (AIT), Nagapattinam, successfully organized an Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse Prevention to educate students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and to encourage them to adopt a healthy, responsible, and drug-free lifestyle.
The programme was conducted at the Block–1 Seminar Hall and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers. The initiative aimed to create awareness about the physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of drug abuse while emphasizing the importance of making informed and positive life choices.
The awareness session was led by Mr. A. Arulsakthi, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Mr. C. Balamurugan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, who served as the resource persons. Through informative presentations and interactive discussions, they explained the causes of drug addiction, early warning signs, preventive measures, and the role of students in promoting a drug-free society.
The speakers encouraged students to develop healthy habits, strengthen their mental well-being, seek guidance whenever needed, and become ambassadors of awareness within their families and communities. They also highlighted the importance of peer support, discipline, and community participation in preventing substance abuse among young people.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. A. K. Suresh, NSS Programme Officer, with the support of Dr. G. Giftson Samuel, Principal, Arifa Institute of Technology, and Dr. N. Asharudeen, Administrative Director, Arifa Group of Institutions. Their encouragement and commitment contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the event.
The awareness programme concluded with an appeal to all students to uphold the values of health, responsibility, and social commitment. Through initiatives like this, Arifa Institute of Technology continues to promote holistic education by empowering students with knowledge, awareness, and the confidence to contribute towards building a healthier and drug-free society.
